White Bread - Bread Machine Method

This isn’t your average homemade bread. This bread is easy to make with just about any bread machine. Unlike other homemade breads, this bread is airy, soft and tasty and will remind you of your childhood in the kitchen with grandma. This recipe is so simple you will be sharing it at your next dinner party when your guest ask where the bread came from.

Prep Time:10 minutes
Cook Time:3 hours

Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp softened butter or substitute with shortening
  • 2 eggs beaten (eggs make the bread softer and rise higher but are not needed, omit if necessary)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 3 cups of all-purpose baking flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp quick rise yeast Fleischmanns orRed Star

Instructions

  • Remove the bread machine pan from the machine and set on a secure area of your workspace
  • Microwave milk in a microwave safe container until warm (about 45-55 sec, may be longer depending on microwave) then add to bread machine pan
  • Add softened butter or shortening to bread machine pan
  • Add beaten eggs
  • Add sea salt and sugar to bread machine pan
  • Sift the flour into the bread machine pan on top of the liquids
  • Make a small hole with a utensil (or your finger) in the center of the flour about 1" deep, add the yeast
  • Place the bread machine pan back into its baking position in the bread machine
  • Power on bread machine, select the desired type of bread and crust selection you desire and push "start" or "bake" to start the bread machine baking process
  • Once the bread machine has ended its baking cycle, remove the bread pan from the machine using potholders or a rag
  • Turn the bread pan upside down while holding it close to your cooling rack, let the loaf fall out of the bread pan and on to the cooling rack to cool
  • Before slicing your loaf of bread, remove the dough mixing blade from the bottom of the loaf if it didn't stay in the pan when you dumped the loaf out to cool
  • Slice and serve warm or leave whole until cooled to room temperature, then wrap in plastic or put in an airtight container until ready to use

Notes

  • Eggs make the bread softer and rise higher but they are not needed, omit them if you don't have them or don't want to use them.
  • Don't have eggs? No problem, just combine 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for the ideal egg substitute for baking breads and pastries.
  • If you need 1 or even in a pinch, 2 eggs, you can use Organic Chia seeds. 1 tablespoon of Organic Chia seeds mixed with 3 tablespoons of water is the equivalent of one large egg. This works for being in a pinch but I wouldn't use this sub if the recipe calls for more than 2 eggs.
  • Always default to your bread machine instruction/baking manual before trying new recipes.
  • I have always had great results when using Fleischmanns Quick Rise yeast but always use what you know works for you
  • Use almond milk and dairy-free butter to make this a dairy free bread
Servings: 1 loaf / 10-12 slices
